This project involved the full transformation of an old stable, set within the rural landscape of Smestow, into a modern two-bedroom home. Our client’s vision was to preserve the historical charm of the building while incorporating contemporary features and comforts suitable for a countryside retreat. This project required careful navigation of rural planning regulations, ensuring compliance while maintaining the character of the original structure.

Design Approach:

The design focused on retaining the rustic features of the stable, while introducing modern elements like an open-plan kitchen, energy-efficient heating, and high-quality finishes. Our team developed a layout that maximised the available space, ensuring the new home would feel open, functional, and welcoming.

Key Challenges:

The location within a protected rural area meant the project had to meet specific planning requirements. Our team worked closely with local authorities to ensure the conversion was sensitive to its surroundings while adhering to all regulations. Additionally, the stable’s historic structure required careful preservation, balancing restoration with the installation of modern amenities.

Outcome:

The final result is a charming two-bedroom home that seamlessly blends old and new. It has since been made available for short-term rental on Airbnb, receiving positive reviews for both its design and comfort. The property serves as an excellent example of how thoughtful architecture can bring new life to heritage buildings while enhancing their usability for modern living.
