At Johnson Design Partnership (JDP), we believe that the outdoor environment plays a critical role in a child’s learning and development. When St. John’s (RC) Primary School in Shropshire approached us to design a new school garden, we set out to create an engaging, natural space that not only served educational purposes but also provided a peaceful retreat within the school grounds.
The design centered around creating a harmonious flow along a processional route, seamlessly connecting protected spaces that would offer both shade and shelter. Incorporating elements such as green pergolas and green roofs, the garden was envisioned as a living extension of the school—enhancing the natural environment while offering students a hands-on opportunity to learn about sustainability and ecology.
