Farmhouse Extension Glazed Linked Annexe and Barn Conversion

As Featured on TV for Channel 4’s Extraordinary Extensions!

This is a complete upgrade of a 17th-century rural farmhouse set in the deep Herefordshire countryside.

The project includes the conversion of a detached barn, the refurbishment and extension to the existing farmhouse. A new annexe also now links to the existing farmhouse via a glazed element.

The larch cladding and a sedum roof compliment the old through references to the surrounding landscape. The design takes full advantage of the outstanding views across the Shropshire Hills and meets the needs of a modern, multi-generational family.

It’s often assumed that planners want designs that are sympathetic to existing buildings, but this extension illustrates planners going for structures markedly different to the homes they’re attached to.
