An exciting new structure that has connected onto and incorporated the refurbishment of a redundant agricultural storage shed. This addition will be transformed into a cutting edge engineering block to feature two new classroom areas.
The structure consists of an exoskeleton framework, meaning the main structural members are on the outside skin of the building allowing high levels of insulation. By reducing unnecessary heat loss we in turn reduce the required energy input for the building. The structure also allows for large glazed panels to maximise natural light in the building and again to decrease the overall energy requirements of the design.
The Rationale underpinning this project approach emerged from a desire to create an appropriate, subservient and sustainable design in a way that enhances the intrinsic contribution to the local context and existing college campus.
